Jane St. John of RE/MAX Estate Properties

Please join us in congratulating and recognizing Jane St. John on earning the Champion of Mental Health Award from Westchester’s Airport Marina Counseling Service. This award honors Jane’s hard work, contributions, and years of support in AMCS’s aim of providing affordable mental health treatment.  She received her philanthropic nature from her father, citing his love of giving back as an inspiration for her own work. In an article of her award in The HomeTown News, she stated, “…when I started to sell real estate, I thought, ‘If I’m going to sell homes in this community, I need to give back.’”

St. John became associated with AMCS in the 1980s and emphasizes the importance of mental health services for individuals, groups, and especially children. She expresses notably how necessary these services are to young children during adolescence, puberty, and transitional station. “Whether kids are bullied at school or dealing with identity challenges, these life transitions are hard to get through without guidance.”

Jane St. John will be honored at the Spring into Well-Being Celebration.

Outside of AMCS, Jane St. John supports other community organizations including Helen’s Room, a non-profit organization that provides a confidence-boosting service for cancer patients. Jane herself is a breast cancer survivor. Other organizations where Jane gives her support are the Education Foundation and the LAX Coastal Chamber. She also helps organize multiple community events such as the Playa del Rey Toy Drive, the Rock Roll & Run, and Jet to Jetty. Her kindness and selflessness show how one person can change many lives. Jane will be honored April 11, 2019, at the Airport Marina Counseling Service Spring into Well-Being Celebration. Tickets are $150. Congratulations, Jane!

Luggage Drive for LA Foster Care Youth

At the end of this month, our Malaga Cove office set up a wonderful donation drive: giving gently used luggage and duffle bags to children in foster care in the Los Angeles county. As these children in foster care move (approximately 35,000) from one location to another, they take their few personal belongings with them in, most often, a trash bag. In just a handful of days, the donation pile grew tremendously.

The duffle bags and luggage that were donated will hopefully provide a sense of comfort and give confidence to these young individuals who deserve much more than what we can provide. A piece of luggage is a beautiful start and we hope it will give these children pride in what they have and more importantly, who they are.

We would like to thank all of those who donated and a special appreciation to those who coordinated this event, asking us to pause and remember what is truly valuable in day-to-day life. We are grateful to work for a company whose people graciously seek the service of others.

Review of 2016 RE/MAXWith the the NEW year only a hours old, we took the time to reflect on some notable events and highlights of our last year. Let us be a little nostalgic before we greet 2017 with open arms.

Agent Spotlight

Those agents who earned honors in their professional endeavors deserve another shouthout. Sloan Sanders earned the title of Rookie of the Year in 2016 for the South Bay Association of REALTORS®.

Brittny Burford and Cheryle Ushkow got your vote, and were elected to the South Bay Association of REALTORS®. Cheryle is your 2017 President Elect and Brittny was named a member to the Board of Directors.

We covered Steve Goddard’s extensive real estate career in the local and international realm.

Along with our individual agent spotlights, we welcomed a large number of real estate professionals to our growing RE/MAX family and could not be more excited for what they bring to the table.

Volunteer Work & Community Service

RE/MAX Estate Properties and Children's Miracle NetworkWe ran, we walked, we cheered from the sidelines, but most importantly we came together for some wonderful causes. Our agents participated in the Torch Relay for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The 5K walk took place on the Strand on November 12th.

For the third year in a row, RE/MAX Estate Properties formed a team in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon. Last year we raised $11,000 and this year we matched our goal of $15,000, dedicating the funds to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

In October, we also celebrated and raised interest for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, spreading awareness for the Susan G. Komen organization which is dedicated to end the disease.

 Kindess Series

Launching a new writing series on our Blog, we covered some truly inspirational acts of selfless love performed by a handful of our agents. Some highlights were Elizabeth Marquart’s efforts to Save the CheetahWarder McKenzie’s summer medical service trip to Jamaica, Mary Voce-Underwood’s rescue spirit and work with Boston Buddies,  and Ruben Magana’s creation of a “Little Heaven” on earth for the elderly and school children in San Joaquin. Their words speak more powerfully than our praise every could. We are grateful these agents work to inspire those around them every day.

Celebrity Properties

When a home once belonging to Tina Turner and Ike hits the market, you better believe we are going to talk about it! The time capsule property was even featured in the classic movie What’s Love Got to Do with It. We also had a blast covering a LA Hot Properties listing: Christian Audigier’s home in Hancock Park. The French fashion designer was best known for brands like Von Dutch and Ed Hardy

Celebrations

While we work hard, we had a great time celebrating this year. From the Holiday party at the new Shade Hotel in Redondo Beach to our Masquerade Ball, we created some wonderful memories that only 2017 can top!

With the end of the 2016 Summer Olympics, when you think about Jamaica your mind probably fixates on Usain Bolt or the multitude of Olympic sprinters with Jamaican heritage. Of course, these individuals are incredible in their own right, but today we want to focus on Mrs. E. Burrell, a name you aren’t as familiar with, yet.
